I’m a designer, interested in shaping the world around me. As an artist I aim to create handmade objects in order to give a little bit more meaning to daily life and also to encourage a different approach to interacting with objects around us.
In the beginning my goal was to create modern furniture and accessories which could act as parts of a modern building. My research finally led to a business of creating concrete accessories which could form a connection between the user and their daily life.
As an artist I’ve always been concerned about the environment and sustainable design, which was the also the subject of my MA thesis. I always was looking for an innovative way to achieve futuristic goals towards sustainability and increasing the lifetime of buildings and its components.
And so my story began from a small workshop in my house which was formed in the COVID pandemic. The idea was to use concrete as a modern material and getting to know concrete and brutalism art as a lifestyle.
Designing modern objects and accessories,
having sustainable design principles in mind.
Choosing concrete as the main product material and experiencing production methods.
Starting from a small workshop in my house, and experiencing new ideas.
Concrete as a material which is being used both in interior and exterior of buildings, is a modern material that has recently made its way to accessories too. This reusable material fit perfectly with my goals in case of sustainability and artworks aesthetics. This may be the main reason that led me to use concrete as the material.
Concrete is a material with exciting features and variant textures. The fact that we can take our imaginations and create objects with any form or smoothness, unlike the concrete’s behavior itself, is truly phenomenal.
As an important part of my journey I participated in a 3-days workshop, held by the professional team members of Pelleh Brand in Tehran. We learned all about concrete as a material and different manufacturing methods, as well as teamwork. With the help of a group of young architects we were able to build different forms and create sculptures and flower pots.
Concrete workshop and getting to know the tools.
Branding of Mabetonic Studio as an Online Store
Producing My First Handmade Concrete Artwork
Eventually the workshop was moved to a co-working space in a historical house Called the Mehrsa House. The interaction with other artists that worked there, creating wooden artworks, fabric printing, and handmade musical instruments led to cultivating the ideology of reviving handicraft industry and also transferring such energy to people’s homes.
Thankfully I was able to achieve these goals, and founded Mabetonic, my online artworks store. I evaluated different behaviors of concrete, just like a specialized laboratory. With the help of human resources through the manufacturing process, and branding, I was able to put my artworks on the market and make sales.
My products fall into three major categories:
